[Acc : 2 ] : THE CONTROVERSY OF HIGH GRADUATE SCORE STANDARD
Discussion Text
Graduate score standard is often being a controversy, especially in Indonesia. The Government established the graduate score standard for students in Junior High School and Senior High School. They did it based on many reasons. They think that the high graduate score standard is good for the advancement of Indonesia. But some of the students think it’s too high. They don’t agree with the graduate score standard that has been established by the government.
The government has many reasons to establish the graduate score standard. They want to make students who graduated from Junior High School or in Senior High School be qualified persons. It can be measured by national examination. Students who want to graduate have to reach at least minimum score in their national examination, or they have to achieve graduate score standard. We can look at the developed country. They establish high graduate score standard for the students there. And we know the value, that countries have many qualified people who can advance their country. The advancement of a country depends on the young generation especially the students. So, if the quality of the students is good, the country will be good too.
However, graduate score standard should be appropriate with the condition of the country. High graduate score standard is appropriate to be applied in developed country because the quality of education there is good. But in developing country like Indonesia, it’s not match. The education in Indonesia has not been evenly. In a province the education services is good, but in another province is not good enough.
Moreover, the students feel overwhelmed with the current high graduate score standard in Indonesia. They think it’s too high for them. It’s not comparable with the education services that they have received.
In the conclusion, the government may establish high graduate score standard to advance their country, but they should increase the quality of education services too to make the students (young generation) don’t feel overwhelmed.
